April 26, 2017

Ziploc® brand seal top bags and containers aren’t just great for saving leftovers, they're also great time savers – thanks to these imaginative meal prep hacks. These three tips make fast weeknight dinners and fresh lunches to-go as simple as reaching into the fridge or freezer.

1. Stir-fry in a zip

Prep your favourite stir-fry recipe ahead of time for a quick and easy weeknight meal. Ziploc® brand freezer bags keep different steps of your recipe separate and the Easy Open Tabs make ingredients accessible super-fast while cooking.

Start by gathering your ingredients and three Ziploc® brand freezer bags, then follow these simple steps.

  • 1

Wash and chop vegetables into bite-sized pieces and put in a Ziploc® brand gallon freezer bag.

  • 2

Combine the ingredients for the sauce in a Ziploc® brand gallon freezer bag and shake to mix.

  • 3

Chop meat, fish or tofu into bite-sized chunks and transfer to another Ziploc® brand quart freezer bag, add half the sauce to marinate and shake to mix.

  • 4

Add both sealed Ziploc® brand quart freezer bags with sauce and marinating protein to the bag with vegetables. Label your meal with its contents and the date, seal and store in the freezer. Thaw in the refrigerator before cooking.

To cook, place a pan over high heat and add a tablespoon of oil. Brown the protein and set aside. Stir fry the vegetables, then add sauce and browned protein and simmer until cooked through. Serve with rice, noodles or other cooked grain.

2. Freeze-ahead Burgers in a Snap

With a little imagination, and Ziploc® brand freezer bags, perfectly-portioned, homemade hamburger patties are a cinch. This bag works as a mess-free mixing bowl and freezer burn shield, making grilling success a guarantee.

Once the prep is done, it’s easy to whip up a meal for one or feed a crowd in just a few minutes. Follow these simple steps

  • 1

In a Ziploc® brand freezer bag, combine ground beef and the seasoning of your choice – from simple salt and pepper to a more gourmet recipe.

  • 2

Seal the bag, pressing out all the air, and mix thoroughly, kneading with your hands.

  • 3

Lay the sealed bag on a flat surface and press the mixture into an even layer. Make score marks by pressing a skewer or chopstick into the bag in a grid pattern, creating nine squares.

  • 4

Freeze, then break off one or more patties along the score marks for cooking and keep the rest in the freezer for later.
